The Runaway Nuclear Train Timetable

So yes, my Audio Book and my Novel both got announced at last! Which should really warrant a post I reckon, although I hesitate to say much about either of them as I don’t want to give anything away, and with so long until their release it’s all changeable anyway.

But I will say that it’s been a fantastic experience to write both of them, especially because of the fact that it’s part of a new series and a new Doctor and not to mention a slightly bluer TARDIS! I’ve done a couple of short stories for the Tenth Doctor (and I’m not finished with him yet- there’s a couple of Doctor Who Adventures strips to come) but I always felt like I kind of arrived at the end of the party with Ten (but oh, what a spectacular end!)- his character was so complete and we had already seen so much of that incarnation, (which is a big tribute to Mr David Tennant- who owned the part the minute he walked on screen) that I never really thought that I had much to add.

It’s completely different writing for the Eleventh Doctor at the stage when he’s still changing and evolving and growing in everybody’s minds because you’re there at the beginning and you get to contribute to that whole first-season-first-impression thing even if it’s in the tiniest of tie-in ways. Of course that actually makes it even more nerve racking as I’m constantly going “does he actually talk like this? have I made him too distant? Too funny? Would that really be Amy’s favourite TV programme?” and most importantly “Is my Eleventh Doctor distinctly different to my Tenth?” So despite all the helpful things I’ve been lucky enough to see, those fears aren’t going to go away until the series airs and I can hold up the novel/audio/comic/whatever and go “yep, that’s the same person.” or “oh god no, I’ve got it completely wrong!”

And that’s it for now, I’ll probably talk about them more nearer the time when blurbs and readers and things have been announced but in a nutshell the whole thing is both fantastic, brilliant and…er… geronimo-ious?

The Christmas Message

Happy Christmas

Unlike seemingly everybody else in the country, Christmas has snuck up on me rather quickly and even with the snow and all it’s very difficult to get into the swing of things this year. I have some deadlines next month and I’m working away furiously at them. To that end I’m not really relaxing, because relaxing makes me feel guilty for not working and I’m not really drinking on the off chance that when I come home from the pub at four in the morning I’ll sit down and do some more writing. Sound silly? It is.

But I refuse to complain any longer as actually I’m having a great december- I met a few of my heroes last week which was absoultely lovely and, even though I don’t have any free time, I really ENJOY my job. So in reality I think I’m rather lucky.

So for the five people that read this, I hope you all have a great Christmas and enjoy your lives. Wooh.
