Nuclear Time and the secret TARDIS traveller

Lee Binding's sexy cover

It’s always a busy time for me these days, but this past month has been especially packed as a number of projects all drew to a close with lots of polishing, amendments and the other fiddly bits that you think won’t take much time and then do. But now’s when it all starts to pay off, and the most exciting thing last week was the big reveal of the Nuclear Time cover (right); Lee Binding has done an incredible job and I couldn’t be happier. This next month and a bit is going to be painful as I wait for it to come out, and it’ll be interesting to see the reaction as I think both the blurb and the cover reveal very little about the main thrust of the plot. I’m very proud of this book and I do believe that had I been given free reign to write a novel about anything, Who or non-Who, at this stage in my life and career, this would still be the best thing I could’ve written. Not that I’ll ever be able to read it myself, I seem incapable of looking at anything of mine once it’s been published (and therefore unchangeable) as I just seem to cringe at every page. It’s much nicer to remember these things as they were when you were writing them rather than after the millionth proof-read. Maybe when the audiobook version is released I’ll dare to revisit it.

In other related news, two factual books I have written for BBC Children’s have both been announced; Doctor Who: TARDIS Traveller and Doctor Who: Secrets of the TARDIS are up on the Penguin website and you can click the links for more details.

Doctor Who and the Blue Moon

Blue moon copy Well, now that it’s been mentioned here I am able to announce that I have written a short story for the BBC Doctor Who site, entitled “Blue Moon”. Set during the Apollo 11 mission, I’ve tried to make this story as ‘real time’ as possible, the events in the story corresponding to the day that each part is put up. I’m really proud of it and I hope you all enjoy it. In fact I enjoyed doing it so much I did a bit of fan art for the story which I hope will whet your appetite.

It’s actually my second short story for Doctor Who, my first being “Total Eclipse of the Heart” (anyone noticing the song title theme? No? Oh well) for the Doctor Who Storybook that will be out I think on the 1st of August and illustrated by the brilliant Martin Geraghty. Surprisingly, both stories are pretty hard sci fi (well, for Doctor Who anyway) but both have been a complete blast to write so long may my adventuring with the Doctor continue. Right, I’ll see you the other side of Torchwood…
