A lot of things to talk about this month. First and foremost being that exactly a week ago, LUC@176 took place. It turned out brilliantly, we had a great animation reel in the end which I was worried about, some families off the street sitting around and having a good time and generally a perfect atmosphere. I’d say that everybody made a fair amount of money and the freeness of it all was simply an added bonus. It’s creating that sense of community combined with the accessibility of the scene to the uninitiated that was the reason I started London Underground Comics in the first place.
I would like to take this opportunity to point out that sadly there are no current plans for any more LUC events. Myself and Sean have spent the last few years trying to achieve something really special and are frankly exhausted. RunningĀ this collective has taken time out of both of our personal projects and we would like to be able to devote a few more hours to ourselves in the forseeable future. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Sean who has tirelessly helped me in this venture even whilst not sharing quite the same passion for why I wanted to do all these things. He is a very selfless man.
My pursuit of a career in writing has also meant that my comics output has not exactly been prolific and I sell less and less of my work at every event, so as much as I love doing what I have done with the stall, I’m not sure that there is sufficient reward for me personally any more considering the hours I put in. I am not resentful in anyway, but for the minute I need to divert my efforts elsewhere- namely into paying the rent. Give me a few months to sort my life out and who knows, LUC could be back with a vengeance. But don’t hold your breath!
Onto my second piece of news now, and that is that BLOC which premiered at last weeks event (and sold very well!) is now available to read online for free in its entirety. I still regard it as one of the best things I’ve ever written and if you agree then please feel free to purchase a copy via the small shop I have embedded into the sidebar of the blog, where you can also pick up some of my back catalogue.
There is one more piece of news which I’m not sure I can talk about so I will have to post about it nearer the time. It’s very exciting though! Well, for me it is anyway.
